Every year many families in the area look forward to joining the hustle and bustle going on in downtown Cape Girardeau on the Sunday following Thanksgiving. The annual “Christmas Parade of Lights” orchestrated through Old Town Cape draws a large crowd of floats as well as spectators.
This year marked the 22nd anniversary… and YES, Alliance Bank staff participated! You may have some high school or college experience working on a float. If so, then, you are fully aware this is no small undertaking. For many hours (weeks prior), Alliance Bank employees plan and decorate the float making sure all the final details are in place.
Engaging in this community event has become a favorite activity for both employees and their family members. It doesn’t matter how cold it is, they just love walking the parade route singing carols, handing out candy, and enjoying the ambiance of the holiday season. The parade route starts at Capaha Park and travels east down Broadway, turning on Main Street and ending on Merriwether in historic downtown Cape Girardeau.
“I love walking down Broadway and handing out candy. My kids seem to enjoy handing it out even more than I do. We look forward to it every year and it has become a tradition now for my family.” says Julie Schlosser, one of the many staff members who helps build the float.
See you next year… and bring your float or enjoy things from the sidelines while you sip on your favorite beverage. For more information about how you can become involved with next year’s fun, contact Old Town Cape at firstname.lastname@example.org.
